Care Workers

Care workers

The activities involving Care Workers observes trends and learnings including Lead Source, Age Gender, Qualifications, Work Type Preference, and Hours Per Week Preferences. Detailed analysis of the candidate progression then identifies pipeline conversion challenges and opportunities. The profiles were created, informed by surveys and interviews conducted.

Most candidates were attracted to aged care work for altruistic reasons (as well as needing or wanting employment).

Profiles

A statistical technique known as Latent Class Analysis was applied to the data to identify and categorise unobservable groups based on patterns of responses. This has created 4 distinct carer profiles, that are useful to consider when attracting candidates and how they progress through the attraction methodology.

Four Profiles

Profile One, 30%
Profile Two, 30%
Profile Three, 15%
Profile Four, 25%

Surveys and Interviews

The Care Worker Surveys were from a representative cross-section of the care workforce, and 153 participants engaged in one or more of the surveys during the project period.

The surveys and subsequent graphical representation of the findings covers a multitude of opinions, knowledge and values including Motivation, Experience, Resilience, Training, Supervision and Supports, Health and CALD insights. The full survey data book is available as an Appendix to the Evaluation Report.

In addition to surveys, 10 telephone interviews occurred with current, prospective, and former caregivers involved with Skills Hubs and the HCWSP. These interviews identified common work-related challenges as well as resources available, particularly focusing on training, placement experiences, motivations, and workplace support.

From these interviews, the report highlights what are the motivating and demotivating factors for a care worker, as well as what the job demands are.

This included a review of physical, psychological, social, and organisational challenges. The report calls out that recognising these varied demands is crucial for employers to offer tailored support.
